You’re not any different than the rest of us. We hear them too. You know what I’m talking about – the voices inside your head. The voices that are telling you that you can’t push any harder, you’re not strong enough, or that you should quit right now. Everybody has them in one capacity or another.
Embrace them. Let them sit on the front line as you overcome and persevere through your limits. Let them weep knowing that they couldn’t hold you down. Laugh at them at the end of every workout, knowing that despite them – you got a little bit better today.
And those things that float around in your stomach and make you feel like you want do backflips and sit in the corner and cry, all at the same time – those are the butterflies. They tend to get a little more severe as the clock starts to beep for 3-2-1-GO. But you know they aren’t there because you’re afraid of what everyone else is thinking about you. They are there now because you want to out do yourself each and every day.
Never let those butterflies die. Because if they do, it means that you gave up and you have become complacent with who you are. Let them fly around and drive you to be the best you that you can be.
This is the one that we all forget – the truth. The truth is that you wake up every single morning with a purpose that is greater than most. That purpose is to improve on the most important thing in this world – yourself. More than that, you actively pursue the opportunity to be great.
The cold hard truth is that you are extraordinary and most people are not mentally and physically strong enough to do what you do everyday. The truth is that the way you improve your fitness is awesome. The truth is that when the voices die down and the butterflies go away – you’ll be the last one standing. And that means you’ve won.
The truth is – you win everyday when you walk into the green and blue sea that is Great White CrossFit.
